dudley residence

Two Storey Residence, Dudley,  NSW.

Our brief for a new residence in the Dudley heritage precinct was to create a new home for a young growing family on a narrow, sloping property. The brief includes three bedrooms, upper informal living room, kitchen and a living and dinning area which opens to the yard.

The challenge was to provide our clients with dynamic interconnected living spaces, increasing the spaciousness of the home on the narrow site, whilst integrating the design language of the residence with the existing heritage context. We appoached this challenge by presenting the street frontage with an interpreted miners cottage aesthetic through the use of iconic pitched roof forms and awning which wraps around the side of the residence. The residence steps down the sloping site with living areas on the lower level. The awning directs you around to the entry of the home, located half way down the residence's northern facade, where you arrive at the kitchen and living areas. The kitchen and living areas are provided with double height ceiling which pull fresh air and daylight through the residence. The secondary living space operates as a mezzanine type space, which over looks the kitchen and living spaces. This allows living areas to borrow space from each other, giving the home a greater sense of space and connectivity.
